Burnishing the tines

I made the grave mistake of pushing the nib of my new Namiki Vanishing Point pen into a counter top. Apparantly, I have a bad habit that I did not know about of retracting and extending pens in this way. What a hard way to find out about a bad pen habit.

In a panic I searched about for a way to bend the bent tines back into alignment. I found a great tutorial on Instructables about burnishing the tines”. I was able to successfully realign the tines.

A fun part of fountain pens for me is the manual side of things. Cleaning, refilling, changing nibs, and now…..repairing. There is reward in a using-your-hands hobby done in a mindful way.
