Mindfulness and the stick shift

This may seem like a corny post, but I have been having mindful moments while driving. I think of this as being somewhat similar to mindful walking meditation but much more fun. I used to drive an automatic but purposely sought out a stick shift for my last auto purchase so I could enjoy the driving experience more fully.

While driving I sometimes pay attention to the sounds of the engine, the movements of the gear shift, the feel of the brake. I am mindful of the movements of the car in a down-shift acceleration or a down-shift deceleration. I note the forces on the car in turns and over hills.

Some write on the web about the mindfulness of making tea. I feel mindful with forward velocity. Perhaps we all have situations and processes we enjoy within which we could be mindful. What about you?
